Production

The Growers of Royal Pride Holland are so passionate about producing high quality tomatoes that it became more than a simple job - and it's clearly seen in the natural development of the crop. The accurate use of state of the art technology allow us to obtain high quality tomatoes with superb taste. Additionally, we put detailed attention to greenhouse climate control, irrigation and labour activities to guarantee the yearlong supply of a delicious and healthy high quality product.

From seed to tomato
In Royal Pride Holland we produce quality tomatoes in technologically advanced greenhouse facilities. In order to guarantee the supply of tomatoes all 365 days of the year, our planting dates vary throughout the year. During the approximate eleven months that the growing season lasts, the plant grows to a length of ten to twelve metres and produces 30 to 35 trusses of tomatoes. The season starts with sowing the seeds at the contracted nursery (please see www.plkvreugdenhil.nl) and after four to seven weeks the young plants are transported to our greenhouses in Wieringermeer where they are planted into rockwool slabs. This is the beginning of the cultivation season for us. After two weeks the first trusses appear and every week a new truss is on the plant. The flowers that later become tomatoes, are polinised by bumble bees. After pollination, fruit growth will take eight weeks until it is mature for harvesting. Thus, every week we are able to harvest one tomato truss from every plant.

The reliable year-round supply of fresh tomatoes by Royal Pride Holland is only possible due to the use of high technology. Our greenhouses are equipped with ventilation windows, heating system, energy screens, supplemental light and the most advanced climate and irrigation control system to provide the optimal growing environment to the plants. This integral system allows us to apply biological control (of pest and disease) strategies ensuring the production of a healthy, delicious and safe product four our consumers.
